The official bid to make Nottingham a UNESCO City of Literature was launched with a reception hosted by the Sheriff of Nottingham, Jackie Morris. In attendance were many noted literary figures: the crowd picture shows David Sillitoe (son of Alan, who earlier that evening had had a tram named after him; and a photographer/ publisher in his own right); literary editor of LeftLion Magazine, James Walker; President of the bid, playwright Stephen Lowe; writers Michael Eaton and Jon McGregor; and many more.
13 months later, Nottingham was successful in getting the status, and is now proud to be a world class city of literature.
